Hearing Screening at the Biela Center on October 29

Bruce from the Audibel Center for Hearing Excellence will be at Biela Center on Wednesday, Oct. 29, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. to conduct hearing screenings and to clean and service hearing aids. This service is free for adults only

Fire Department to hold Health/Fun Fair Oct. 18

Saturday, Oct. 18, will be the day for the Crestwood Fire Department's 11th annual Health and Fun Fair. The event will be held at the Nathan Hale Middle School, 135th and Laramie, starting at 9 a.m. and running until 1 p.m.
The Fair's goal is to raise funds for the purchase of firefighting, training and communication equipment to benefit the village. Previous Fairs have resulted in the purchase of such life-saving equipment as the Jaws of Life, heart defibrillators and thermal imaging cameras. These have already saved many residents' lives.
For those not intending to participate in the blood-drawing program that will be offered, a good way to start the day will be the special all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast for $6 per person.
Supercuts will be on the scene offering haircuts for a $5 donation (or more), with all proceeds going to the Crestwood Fire Department..
Also on the agenda will be a Keep Your Kids Safe program, which includes fingerprinting and ID cards distributed by members of the Cook County Sheriff's Police. It is sponsored by Rep. Robert Rita.
Another feature will be the Teddy Bear Clinic sponsored by the Midwestern University Pediatric Medicine Clinic. Each child will receive a free Teddy Bear.
The Illinois State Police will hold an-always interesting demonstration on vehicle rollovers and offer child safety seat checks.
Again this year, Ingalls Memorial Hospital will hold a screening program for a variety of maladies with a full team of personnel starting at 8 a.m. until 11 a.m. The blood drawing requires fasting for an accurate reading. Fair veterans suggest you come having fasted for the blood draw and then dig into the pancake breakfast.
For those who haven't fasted, coupons will be sold allowing you to take the tests at a later date. Screening includes diabetes, cholesterol, prostate cancer, anemia, thyroid disease and cardiac risk. The testing is offered until 11 am.
Many insurance policies don't cover preventative medicine. If you don't have insurance, or if your insurance is high-deductible don't miss this opportunity to receive potentially life-saving services at reduced costs.
Flu vaccinations will be given by Value Village Pharmacy of Dolton, subject to availability. Vaccines will be free to Medicare recipients with proof of insurance. Medicare HMOs such as Humana are not included.
